Below, is a very simple circuit that can be used for charging car batteries. In this series there are facilities to monitor the charging current and voltage.
Using this circuit MC78T12ABT IC from Freescale. In 7812 is none other than TO-3 package with a capacity of 3A. Step-voltage 15V AC transformer T1 and diodes D1 & D2 doing the work of Rectification (Rectifier). Capacitors C1 and C2 perform screening functions as a decoupling capacitor. IC1 appointed ground 2.1V using diodes D3, D4 and D5 (0.7 @ diode). So the output of IC1 would be regulated 14.1V (12 2,1). The battery is charged through diode D6. D6 Preventing backflow flow from the battery into the charging circuit when the main power is not available. Shows the charging current meter M1 and M2 indicate the charging voltage.
